Configuring Card Readers for a Toast POS Device

After you pair the Bluetooth card reader with the Android tablet, you must configure the Toast POS device to communicate with the card reader. You use the same configuration procedure for all supported Bluetooth card reader models. You must have the Device Setup > Terminal Setup permission to configure the card reader.

After you configure one card reader, you cannot add other card readers, because the Add Card Reader option is removed from the Card Readers section of the Device Setup screen. If you remove the current (active) card reader, the Add Card Reader option is restored to the Card Readers section.

Note

The Set Up Device screen has a Payment Option selection that you should leave at its default setting. This option is reserved for future use.

To configure the card reader on the Toast POS device

  1. Access the Toast POS Device Setup.

  2. On the Device Setup screen, scroll down to the Card Readers section.

  3. Tap Add New Card Reader.

    2. On the Card Reader Model dialog, select the desired card reader:

  6. Optionally, you can provide a custom name for the card reader. If you do not configure a custom name, the card reader is listed by its MAC (media access control) address.

To configure a custom name for the card reader, do the following:

    1. On the Set Up Device screen, tap Card Reader Name. A dialog to add a custom name displays.

    2. In the dialog, enter a custom name for the card reader and tap OK.

  7. On the Set Up Device screen, tap Complete Setup.

  8. After adding the card reader, you should verify that it is recognized by the Toast POS system. To do so, place an order (for example, from the Quick Order screen). You should see a Card reader ready message at the bottom of the screen.
