Enabling EMV

If your card reader supports EMV transactions, you can enable the EMV functionality on your Toast POS device.

To enable EMV on an added card reader

  1. Access the Toast POS Device Setup.

  2. On the Device Setup screen, scroll down to the Payment Processing section.

  3. Tap the EMV Enabled option.

  4. The system may automatically run a card capability check on the configured card reader, to verify whether the card reader needs an EMV settings update. This capability check is not run if the system determines that the card reader does not need updating.

    The result of the capability check is one of the following:

    • The card reader does not require an EMV update. The Enable EMV chip read dialog displays, so that you can enable EMV.

    • The card reader requires an EMV update. The Card Reader Updates dialog automatically displays and you update the card reader. After the update is applied, either EMV is enabled or the Enable EMV chip read dialog displays.

    • The card reader requires an EMV update. The Card Reader Updates dialog automatically displays and you cancel the update. EMV remains disabled.

  5. If the Enable EMV chip read dialog displays, select Yes and then tap Continue.

    EMV is enabled and you are returned to the Device Setup screen. The EMV Enabled option in the Payment Processing section is set to Yes.
