Card Reader Troubleshooting

Most card reader problems occur because liquid has made it into the card reader. To keep your Toast Go devices in good working order, take care to prevent this from happening.

The credit card icon in the top-left of the screen indicates the status of the card reader (see Card Reader Icon for a description of card reader status icons). Swiping down from the top notification panel also shows an extended version of the card reader's status. If the card reader is disconnected, use the troubleshooting suggestions listed below, in the order presented. Test the card reader after completing each troubleshooting suggestion. Only continue troubleshooting if the card reader is still not functional.

Note

On the Toast Go, the card reader is hardwired to the device, eliminating the need for Bluetooth pairing.

  • Toggle the screen on and off by short pressing the power button. Note that this does not restart the device, it simply refreshes the connection to the card reader. Check to see if the card reader is connected and, if so, try a card swipe. If not, continue to the next suggestion.

  • Plug the Toast Go into a power source. If the card reader LED lights up amber or does not light up at all, contact Toast Support via Toast Central. If the card reader LED is green, continue with the next step.

  • Force stop the Toast POS app and clear its defaults:

    1. Go to the Android operating system's Settings on the Toast Go.

    2. Tap Apps, then tap Toast POS.

    3. Tap Force Stop.

    4. Tap Clear Defaults.

    5. Restart the Toast POS app.

    6. You are presented with two USB permission dialog boxes. In both USB permission dialog boxes, tap Yes, opt to remember the setting, and then tap OK.

Check to see if the card reader is connected and, if so, try a card swipe. If not, continue to the next suggestion.

Note that clearing the defaults on the Toast Go will clear the device set up and you will have to recreate it.

  • Restart the Toast Go by pressing and holding the power button. Check to see if the card reader is connected and, if so, try a card swipe. If not, continue to the next suggestion.

  • Uninstall and reinstall the Toast POS application. The Toast POS app can be found at www.toasttab.com/link/apk. If your device is in offline mode, contact Toast Support before uninstalling Toast.
