Prep / Delivery Times

The settings your configure on this page indicate the time it takes your restaurant to prepare and deliver online orders to guests. When guests place orders through Toast online ordering channels such as your restaurant's Toast online ordering website and the Toast Takeout app, these settings are used to display an estimate of the time it takes to fulfill an order.

To review and change settings on the Other Setup > Prep / Delivery Times page, you must have the Web Setup > Restaurant Operations Setup access permission.

The following tables describe the settings on this page.

POS Prep Time

Setting Options and Description

Default Prep Time (POS)

For an online order placed using a Toast POS device, this is the amount of time required by the kitchen to prepare the items in the order.

  • Specified in minutes.

  • Must be >= 0 minutes.

  • Must be a multiple of 5.

Note

A restaurant employee with the Table Service Mode and/or Quick Order Mode access permissions can edit the default prep time for an order they place on the POS. Note that the edited prep time applies to that order only. The default prep time you configured is applied to subsequent orders.

Online Ordering/Order API Prep Time

Setting Options and Description

Default Prep Time (OO/API)

For an online order placed through Toast or integrated online ordering channels, this is the amount of time required by the kitchen to prepare the items in the order.

  • Specified in minutes.

  • Must be >= 0 minutes.

  • Must be a multiple of 5.

This value is used to estimate when a guest can expect their online order to be ready. The estimate is displayed to guests when they place their order on your restaurant's Toast online ordering website or through the Toast Takeout app. For more information, see Configuring online ordering hours in Online ordering hours section.

The following settings appear when you select + Add Prep Time. You configure price-based prep times using these settings. Price-based prep times, if set, override the Default Prep Time (OO/API) setting.

Price-based Prep Time

Setting Options and Description

Min $

If the check total is greater than or equal to this value, and less than the corresponding Max $ value, then the kitchen requires the amount of time specified by the corresponding Prep Time setting to prepare the order.

The Min $ value is a read-only setting. It is automatically configured to be $0.01 more than the Max $ value of the previous tier. The Min $ value of the first price-based prep time tier is $0.00.

Max $

If the check total is less than or equal to this value, and greater than the corresponding Min $ value, then the kitchen requires the amount of time specified by the corresponding Prep Time setting to prepare the order.

The Max $ value of the last tier is read-only.

Prep Time

When the check total value is equal to or between the Min $ and Max $ values, this is the amount of time required by the kitchen to prepare the items in the order. You specify Prep Time in minutes or hours. To change the time unit, use the corresponding drop down list. When specified, this value overrides the Default Prep Time (OO/API) value.

Delivery Time

Setting Options and Description

Default Delivery Time

The amount of time required for your restaurant's delivery driver to deliver an order to the guest's address.

  • Specified in minutes.

  • Must be >= 0 minutes.

  • Must be a multiple of 5.

In addition to prep time, Default Delivery Time is used to estimate when a guest can expect their online order to be delivered. This estimate is displayed to guests when they place their order on your restaurant's Toast online ordering website or through the Toast Takeout app. For more information, see Understanding Fulfillment Time.

Important

The delivery time you configure here is used as the default time only when you use your own delivery drivers. If you use Toast Delivery Services or integrated delivery partners, the delivery time you specify while configuring your restaurant's settings on the partner's platform overrides this setting.
