Prerequisites for configuration access

Before you can configure the Toast platform, an administrator must set up user credentials for you.

  • To access the Toast mobile app on a device, your user credential is a numeric POS access code. Typically, every employee has a POS access code so that they can clock in and clock out on one of the restaurant's Toast POS devices.

  • To access the website for the Toast administration back-end, your user credentials are an email address and password. Typically, only employees who are responsible for restaurant management and administration can access both Toast POS devices and the web-based Toast administration back-end.

In addition, an administrator must assign you one or more access permissions.

  • To complete tasks on a device, administrators give employees permissions that allow access to order placement, order fulfillment, and order payment functions. These access permissions also provide access to the Device Setup option.

  • To complete restaurant-wide operations, such as menu or kitchen set up, financial set up, and reporting, administrators give employees permissions that allow access to management or administration functions.

You can assign access permissions to employees either by assigning jobs with a set of predefined permissions or individually. You can use the Jobs page in the Toast administration back-end to edit job permissions. To open the Jobs page, choose Employees > Employee management > Jobs.
