Receipt Setup

To review and change settings on the Marketing > Receipt Setup page, you must have the Restaurant Admin > Marketing Info access permission.

The following tables provide information about the settings on the Receipt Setup page.

Note

Changing the restaurant name, address, or telephone number on this page only affects the information that appears on guest receipts. If you need to change the contact information that Toast has on file for your restaurant, please contact Toast Support.

Basic

Setting Options and Description

Number

The system assigns this identifier. It cannot be changed.

Header

This setting accepts a text string. The text appears at the top of guest receipts. Each row of the receipt header can have a maximum of 42 characters.

Footer

This setting accepts a text string. The text appears at the bottom of guest receipts. Each row of the receipt footer can have a maximum of 42 characters.

The default label is Powered by Toast.

Logo

This setting uploads an image file to print on receipts. The image file must be in PNG or JPEG format, and for best results it should be 360 pixels square. The system automatically resizes images with sizes other than 360x360.

To upload an image file, select Choose Image and navigate to the file on your local computer or network. After you save, the image prints at the top of guest receipts, above the header text.

Setting Options and Description

Show Tab Name

This setting determines whether the tab names that are entered by servers print on guest receipts. You define whether servers are prompted for a tab name in quick order mode on the Other Setup > UI Options page, or on individual devices with the Device Setup > Override Blank Tab Name Prompt option.

  • Show tab name on customer receipts

  • Don't show

Show Guest Count

This setting determines whether your guest receipts for dine-in orders (taken in either quick order or table service mode) print Guest Count: and the number below the server's name.

  • Show guest count

  • Don't show

You define the dining options that your restaurant uses on the Kitchen/Dining Room > Dining Options page.

Free Items

This setting determines whether receipts for dine-in orders include free items.

  • Show free Items on Dine-In receipts

  • Don't show

    Select this option to produce receipts that only list items that contribute to the check price.

You define the dining options that your restaurant uses on the Kitchen/Dining Room > Dining Options page.

Item Modifiers

This setting determines whether receipts for dine-in orders list modifiers.

  • Always display item modifiers

    Select this option to list any modifiers indented on the next receipt line(s) after the parent item.

  • Don't display item modifiers

    Select this option if you do not want any modifiers to appear on receipts. Priced modifiers always have their price added to the parent item.

Hide Modifier Prices

This setting appears if Item Modifiers is set to Always display item modifiers.

This setting determines whether receipts show a total price for an item including any additional charges for modifiers, or show the item price and then each additional charge for a modifier separately.

  • Yes - Include price of modifiers in the price of the main item

  • No - Show price of each modifier separately

Free Modifiers

This setting appears if Item Modifiers is set to Always display item modifiers.

This setting determines whether receipts for dine-in orders include free modifiers. Free modifiers do not have a listed price and as a result are free of charge to guests.

  • Show free modifiers on Dine-In receipts

  • Don't show

    Select this option to produce less cluttered receipts that list only modifiers that contribute to the check price.

You define the dining options that your restaurant uses on the Kitchen/Dining Room > Dining Options page.

Special Requests

This setting determines whether receipts for dine-in orders include free special requests.

  • Show free special requests on Dine-In receipts

  • Don't show

    Select this option to produce receipts that include only requests that contribute to the check price.

Free special requests are always included on take out and delivery checks.

You define the dining options that your restaurant uses on the Kitchen/Dining Room > Dining Options page.

Service Charges Font

This setting determines the font size used to print service charges on receipts in comparison to the other items on the receipt. You use the Customer Receipt Font Size option for a printer on the Kitchen/Dining Room > Printers page to define the baseline, or normal, font size.

  • Large Font

    Select this option to print service charges in a larger size than the other items on the receipt.

    Note

    If the Customer Receipt Font Size for the printer is set to Large, this option prints service charges in the same size as other items on the receipt.

  • Normal Font

    Select this option to print service charges in the same size as the other items on the receipt.

Display Discounts Above Subtotal

This setting determines whether all discounts applied to an order appear on one line above the subtotal line with the total amount saved, or if each discount appears on a separate line.

  • Yes

  • No

Print Payments

This setting determines whether the receipt shows each payment type applied to the check total, as entered on the Order screen. Payment types include cash, credit card charges, and house account charges.

Note

Payment types that are configured to be handled as discounts (by the Payments > Other Payment Options > Treat as Discount setting) always appear on guest receipts, regardless of the option you select for this setting.

  • Show all completed payments on customer's full check, printed from orders screen

  • Don't show

Itemize Quick Order Receipts

This setting determines whether to itemize receipts printed from quick order mode.

  • Always itemize Quick Order receipts

    Select this option to itemize all receipts printed from quick order mode. Because the receipt prints after a credit card is swiped, this option streamlines credit card payments by printing a receipt that the guest can sign.

  • Don't itemize Quick Order receipts

Itemize Table Service Receipts

This setting determines whether to itemize receipts printed from table service mode.

  • Always itemize Table Service receipts

    Select this option to itemize all receipts printed from table service mode. Because the receipt prints after a credit card is swiped, this option streamlines credit card payments by printing a receipt that the guest can sign.

  • Don't itemize Table Service receipts

Display Tip Line

This setting determines whether to print a tip line on credit card receipts.

  • Show tip line on credit card receipts

    Select this option to print lines labeled + Tip and = Total below the check total so that guests can write in a tip and revised total amount.

  • Don't show

Tip Line with Gratuities

For guest checks that include a gratuity, this setting defines the label that appears with the tip line on credit card receipts.

  • Use "Additional Tip" text

  • Use "Tip" text

Combine items on receipts

This setting determines how multiple identically-named items appear on receipts. For example, if the table has ordered two servings of Crab Cakes at $8.99 each, receipts can either print 2 Crab Cakes with a price of $17.98 or print Crab Cakes twice, each with an amount of $8.99.

  • Yes

    Select this option to combine identical items under one name and sum their prices into one total.

  • No

    Select this option to list each item separately by name and by price.

Promo Area

This setting determines the text of the promotional message that appears above the receipt footer.

Survey Code on Receipts

This setting determines whether a unique, 15-digit survey code is included on the bottom of printed receipts so that guests can respond to a third-party survey site.

  • Yes

    Select this option to print a 15-digit code on receipts.

  • No

Display Tip Percentages on Customer Receipts

This setting determines whether suggested tip amounts print on the merchant copy of credit card receipts. You define the suggested tip amounts with the Customize Tip Percentages setting on the Other Setup > UI Options page.

  • Yes

    Select this option to print a section labelled either Suggested Tip (if no gratuity service charge applies) or Suggested Additional Tip (if a gratuity service charge applies) at the bottom of guest receipts.

    If you select this option, you should also set Display Tip Line to Show tip line on credit card receipts.

  • No

Display Charity Tip Line

This setting determines whether to include a tip line for an optional charitable contribution on printed credit card receipts. The option for this setting has no effect on digital receipts.

  • Yes

  • No

Charity Tip Line Message

This setting appears only if Display Charity Tip Line is set to Yes. This setting accepts a text string of up to 12 characters to label the charity tip line on credit card receipts. The default label is Charity.

Closed Check Receipt

This setting determines whether guest receipts print automatically after the check is closed, or only if requested.

  • Print automatically after closing the check

  • Only print on demand

Show House Accounts

This setting determines whether guest receipts that are paid using a house account show the account number or the name associated with the house account after the total line.

  • Show house account number

  • Show name associated with house account

Display Item Quantity

This setting determines whether guest receipts show the quantity ordered for every item ordered, including the number 1 for single-quantity items, or if the quantity appears only for multiple orders of the same item.

  • Always display item quantity

  • Don't display quantity on single items
