Cash payment workflow

The cash payment workflow has changed in version 2.44 of the POS app.

The following sections describe the payment workflow when a restaurant guest makes a payment with cash.

Note

The changes to the payment workflow are in limited release and do not affect all Toast platform restaurant locations.

Cash tips warning

If a restaurant employee enters a non-zero amount into the Tip field on the payment screen, and then chooses the Cash button to initiate the payment, a warning message is displayed. Choosing GOT IT allows the restaurant employee to continue into the cash payment workflow.

POS app version 2.44 changes

  • Previous versions of the Toast POS app did not interrupt the cash payment workflow when a non-zero tip amount was present.

Change due

If the restaurant employee enters a cash payment amount that is equal to or greater than the outstanding balance, the amount of change due to the guest is displayed in large text.

If the restaurant employee enters a cash payment amount less than the outstanding balance, the remaining balance is displayed.

The Void option at the bottom of the screen is only displayed when there is no change due or when there is a remaining balance.

If digital receipts are enabled for the payment, or if Cash Receipt Options in Device Setup is set to Prompt for Receipt Options, both a No Receipt and a Receipt option will be displayed. Otherwise, a single Done button is displayed.

POS app version 2.44 changes

  • Previous versions of the Toast POS app did not display remaining balance information for partial payments.
