Restaurant Operations 2.49

This section provides information about changes that affect the way restaurant employees take and fulfill guest orders.

Improvements

The following notes provide information about new and improved functionality.

Item labels now support a greater number of modifiers per item

On item labels, a smaller font sized is used for modifiers when necessary so that more modifiers fit on the label.

On KDS displays, dining option font sized has been increased 30%

The font size used to display dining options on KDS displays has been increased by 30% to make them easier to read.

Print queue includes new labels to distinguish between prep station and expediter tickets

The Toast POS print queue now includes the labels Prep Station Tickets and Expediter Tickets with the print job names for kitchen tickets. The labels make it easier to troubleshoot printing configuration problems. Previously, both prep station tickets and expediter tickets were included in the same print queue entry, with the label Kitchen Tickets.

KDS tickets can display a colored border based on dining option

Tickets on KDS displays can now have a colored border that visually indicates whether the dining option associated with the ticket is an on-premise dining option or an off-premise dining option. For example, dine-in tickets can have a green border while takeout orders (including delivery and curbside) can have a red border. To enable this feature, set the following on the Kitchen Setup page in the Toast administration back-end:

  • In the Printed Tickets and Tickets Screens section, set Always Print and Show Dining Option to Yes.

  • In the Ticket Screens section, check the Enabled column for the dining behavior (Dine in or Takeout, delivery, curbside) you want to see a colored bordered for. Optionally, click the color tile associated with the dining behavior and select a color from the color picker. The preview area will show you what your tickets will look like based on your selections.

With the settings above, if a ticket does not have a dining option associated with it, it will not have a border. Also, if the Always Print and Show Dining Option is set to No, no tickets will display colored borders.

Fixes

The following notes provide information about new and improved functionality.

Time-specific prices nested within location-specific prices now save correctly

An issue existed for restaurants using the master menu management module where, if you created a location-specific price and then nested a time-specific price within that location-specific price, when you saved the time-specific price, the time for the price shifted by an offset. This problem has been fixed.

Improvements

The following notes provide information about new and improved functionality.

Receipt promo area can be restricted to receipts for specific dining options

In the Toast administration back-end, the Receipt Setup page has a new option, Display Promo Area On, that allows you to configure whether the promo area is printed on all receipts or only on receipts for orders with the dining options you choose. For example, you can limit the promo area to printing on receipts for takeout orders only. To use this option, set the Display Promo Area On setting to Per dining option and then choose the dining options from the list.

Fixes

The following notes provide information about fixed problems.

SMS messages that use placeholders are now successfully sent to customers

An issue existed that caused SMS messages to not be sent to customers when those messages contained placeholders for information like GUEST, TABLE, and so on. This issue has been fixed.

Employees 2.49

This section provides information about changes that affect the way restaurant management interacts with employees.

Fixes

The following notes provide information about fixed problems.

Saving on the employee details page is only enabled when changes are actually made

Previously, on the employee details page in the Toast administration back-end, the Save and Save Changes buttons that appear on the Basic, Jobs and Permissions, and Restaurant Access tabs were always enabled, allowing you to save the page even when changes had not been made. Now these buttons are only enabled when changes have been made.

Note

For a change in the Wage Override field to be recognized (and the Save button to become active), you must enter the wage override and then click somewhere else on the page. This is the only field that behaves this way. Changes to other fields on the tabs immediately cause the Save or Save Changes button to become active.

Money 2.49

This section provides information about changes that affect the way a restaurant receives payments.

Improvements

The following notes provide information about new and improved functionality.

Signature threshold and default tip selection reintroduced to the payment workflow

In an earlier limited release, the signature threshold for credit card payments and default tip selection were removed from the payment workflow. This release reintroduces these features:

  • If you are using the combined tip & signature UI option, you can once again set a default tip amount. Guests must now tap a tip option to select it and then tap Continue to confirm their choice. You can configure one of the tip options to be pre-selected when the guest arrives on the tipping screen.

  • You can configure a signature threshold for credit card payments by going to Payment Options > Credit > Signature Threshold in the Toast administration back-end.

Unpaid orders in Orders Hub show “Not Paid" label

With this release, a NOT PAID label appears next to the order number and customer name for any order with at least one unpaid item in Orders Hub.

Fixes

The following notes provide information about fixed problems.

Infrequent crashes during contactless payments fixed

An infrequent crash that sometimes occurred when paying with a contactless payment method has been fixed.

Payment processing screen on Guest-Facing Display shows post-tip total

Previously, the Processing your payment screen on the Guest-Facing Display showed only the pre-tip payment amount. The screen now displays the total payment amount, including any tip amount.

Reporting 2.49

This section provides information about changes that affect reporting information and functionality.

Fixes

The following notes provide information about fixed problems.

Out of date browser message no longer prevents viewing of sales reports on ELO V1s

After a change was introduced to the Toast administration back-end that informed users that their browser was out of date, users could not access sales reports on ELO V1 devices running the 2.46.10 version of the Toast POS app. This problem has been fixed.

Product Mix Breakdown by Sales Category table is now consistent with the Sales Summary report

The Product Mix Breakdown by Sales Category table at the bottom of the Menu Breakdown report (when viewing the report by sales category) was changed to use the same sales category rollups as the Sales Summary report to keep these two reports consistent with one another.

This section provides information about changes that affect the Toast POS system hardware and performance.

Improvements

The following notes provide information about new and improved functionality.

IP address no longer required for plug & play printers

If a Toast POS device's primary printer is configured to be an Item Label printer, selecting individual items from the KDS and selecting the print button now only prints item labels for those selected items (rather than printing the whole ticket).
