Restaurant Operations 2.51

This section provides information about changes that affect the way restaurant employees take and fulfill guest orders.

Improvements

The following notes provide information about new and improved functionality.

Item labels support fractional quantities

Item labels now support fractional quantities. The behavior of the item label depends on whether or not the item is sold by weight:

  • For items that are not sold by weight, the Toast platform prints a label for each whole item and a final label for the partial item. For example, 3.5 Slices of Cake results in three labels, Slice of Cake, Slice of Cake and .5 Slice of Cake.

  • For items that are sold by weight, one label is printed that reflects the total weight of the item. For example, 14.5 Oz. Tuna Salad results in one label for 14.5 Oz. Tuna Salad.

Item labels support more modifier configurations

Item labels now support the following modifier configurations:

  • Pre-modifiers

  • Showing item sizes inline with the menu item name

  • Consolidated modifiers

  • Hiding default modifiers

SMS no longer sent for fully voided or recalled orders when fulfilled

Guests and servers will no longer receive an SMS message for an order upon fulfillment if the order has been fully voided or recalled. Guests and servers will continue to receive an SMS message if only a portion of the ticket has been voided.

Dining option displays at the top of all item labels

The dining option of an order now displays at the top of all item labels.

Kitchen tickets can be marked as RUSH orders

Kitchen tickets can be marked as RUSH orders from an expediter KDS station, which will cause the ticket to appear to the far left side of the screen of the destination KDS terminal for added visibility.

Adding item-level modifier groups and modifiers using menu builder

You can now add item-level modifier groups and modifiers using the menu builder. For more information, see Product Guide: Creating Your Menu Using the Basic Menu Builder.

Adding existing menu items search results optimized

A problem that prevented the Adding Existing Menu Items search function from displaying over 1000 search results has been fixed. Previously, results of over 1000 items created a data request too large to retrieve within an acceptable period of time. The search function now only displays up to 1000 items. If the number of entities exceeds 1000, the search function requests that the user narrow their search criteria.

Size, sequence, and size/sequence pricing and Size configuration setting for modifier groups is now available to all customers

The Size, Sequence, and Size/Sequence pricing strategies for modifier groups are now available to all Toast customers. Previously, these strategies were in limited release and not available to all customers.

The Size Configuration setting for individually-priced modifier groups is now available to all Toast customers. Previously, this setting was in limited release and not available for all customers.

Note that these changes are supported on the Toast POS app, on Toast online ordering websites, and are available to Toast online ordering partners, but they are not available on other Toast ordering channels. For details, see Toast product channel support for advanced pricing features.

Service charges can be applied to dining options that use the Dine In behavior

When configuring a service charge in the Toast administration back-end, you can now set it to auto-apply to dining options that use the Dine In behavior.

Toast administration back-end payment options include visual examples

The Tip & Signature Flow configuration settings for Digital Receipt Options in the Toast administration back-end now include visual examples of the two layout options.

Restaurant management groups can disable configuration publishing

Note

This change is in limited release and does not affect all Toast platform restaurant locations.

Restaurant management groups can stop configuration publishing that is in progress and prevent employees at restaurant locations from publishing configuration changes. When you disable configuration publishing, employees at your restaurant locations see a message indicating that the locations are in a publishing blackout.

Fixes

The following notes provide information about new and improved functionality.

Size modifiers that have nested modifiers of their own are properly displayed

An issue existed where size modifiers that had nested modifiers of their own were not being displayed. This issue has been fixed.

Quantities for nested modifiers display on KDS devices

An issued existed that prevented quantities for nested modifiers from displaying on KDS devices. This issue has been fixed.

Individual item fulfillment synced across multiple, item-specific KDS prep stations

A problem that prevented KDS displays from correctly updating fulfillment status when a ticket is partially fulfilled at another KDS prep station has been fixed. If you have multiple KDS stations and a ticket is partially fulfilled at one KDS, other KDS stations that are fulfilling the same ticket are now updated to show the item fulfillment.

Curbside check-ins print pickup tickets correctly and without primary printer selection

A problem existed that caused curbside pickup tickets to fail to print if the auto-firing Toast POS device did not have a primary printer assigned to it; additionally, curbside pickup tickets sometimes failed to respect the target printer’s configured font size, resulting in misprints. Both problems are fixed.

Restaurants can now access and archive menu entities targeted at an archived restaurant

A problem existed that prevented you from accessing or archiving menu entities at a restaurant if they were targeted at an archived restaurant. You can now load entities that have them as a child or parent and change the target, and also archive them, at other restaurants.

Modifiers using Menu-Specific Pricing now use the price calculated from each menu

A problem existed for modifiers using menu-specific pricing that caused the Toast platform to only use the price from the first menu and to ignore prices set for additional menus. Modifiers using menu-specific price now use the correct price according to the menu.

Orders hub correctly displays price information

Previously, the price information for some menu item selections could be displayed incorrectly on the orders hub. This did not affect the restaurant's revenue in any way, but could lead to seemingly-incorrect subtotal/tax representations. This has been fixed.

Guests 2.51

This section provides information about changes that affect the guest experience at a restaurant.

Improvements

The following notes provide information about new and improved functionality.

Order and Pay at the Table cart and tab screens now in a single location, confirmation page updated

The cart and Your tab screens have been merged into a single location for Order and Pay at the Table. The Order Confirmation page has also been updated and optimized for guest performance.

Fixes

The following notes provide information about fixed problems.

Split payments check no longer leaves amount due for tax after applying flat-amount promo code

A problem that caused incorrect tax distribution for split payments on a check has been fixed. When two or more guests split payments on a check and a flat-amount promo code was applied, the final paying guest was not paying off the full balance owed due to an incorrect tax distribution, therefore leaving the check open and the party remaining re-joinable. This has been fixed and split payments no longer leaves an amount due.

Split payments confirmation screen displays subtracted promo code amount

A problem that affected the way that promotion code discounts appeared in split check payments has been fixed. In this situation, when a guest selected the option to split a payment and then added a promo code, a visual bug (which did not affect actual payment amounts) made it appear that the monetary discount from the code was being added to the total instead of subtracted. This has been fixed and the discount amount displays correctly.

Employees 2.51

This section provides information about changes that affect the way restaurant management interacts with employees.

Improvements

The following notes provide information about fixed problems.

Accept invitation dialog box has clearer headings for creating new password and passcode

The Accept invitation dialog box that is presented to new Toast platform users now makes it clearer that the user is creating a new password and passcode, not entering an existing password and passcode.

Error message shown to users without associated restaurants

Users without any associated restaurants will now get an error message within the Toast administration back-end, instead of being redirected to the Toast home web page.

Money 2.51

This section provides information about changes that affect the way a restaurant receives payments.

Fixes

The following notes provide information about fixed problems.

Itemized receipts are printed for digital receipts only

Previously, with the new payment workflows, the Toast platform would print an itemized receipt every time. Now it prints an itemized receipt only when digital receipts are enabled, either with a print copy of the receipt or print after authorization options enabled. When traditional receipts are being used and the payment is over the print receipt threshold, the receipt prints without itemization. Any receipt prints with or without itemization after a screen timeout according to the configuration chosen in the Toast administration back-end.

Hardware and Performance 2.51

This section provides information about changes that affect the Toast POS system hardware and performance.

Fixes

The following notes provide information about new and improved functionality.

Printer migration success screen no longer cut off on Elo devices

Previously, a problem caused the printer migration Success! confirmation screen to be partially cut off from view on Elo devices. This has been fixed.

KDS no longer uses kiosk mode as backup

A problem that caused a new KDS device that was not previously configured to automatically boot into Kiosk mode has been fixed. The new KDS device now displays an error message instead, requesting configuration.
