Version 2.54, May 2022

This section provides information about software and environment changes that are included in version 2.54 of the Toast platform.

In these release notes, "version v2.54" includes the following software versions.

  • Toast POS app: 2.54

  • Toast administration back-end: release-255 and higher.

  • Toast platform cloud component services: The Toast platform includes a large number of component services that are regularly updated. The version identifiers of these services are not visible to restaurant employees, restaurant guests, or Toast platform system administrators.

The following sections provide information about changes in version 2.54.

Restaurant Operations 2.54

This section provides information about changes that affect the way restaurant employees take and fulfill guest orders.

Toast TP200 printers label duplicate kitchen tickets with the word "copy"

If you use a Toast TP200 printer as a kitchen ticket printer, the printer will print two copies of each kitchen ticket and include the word “copy” at the top of one printed copy. You can use the copy label to distinguish the duplicate ticket and ensure that you do not fulfill the ticket twice.

Toast TakeOut App allows guests to choose modifier quantities

The Toast TakeOut app now allows restaurant guests to choose modifier quantities when placing orders. For example, for a “dozen bagels” menu item, a guest might choose a “plain” modifier with a quantity of 6 and a “raisin” modifier with a quantity of 6.

Orders fire to kitchen immediately after payment summary is displayed

For restaurants that have the Orders Send Only After Check Is Paid option set to Yes, the Toast platform will now fire orders to the kitchen immediately after the payment summary screen is displayed in the Toast POS app, instead of waiting for an employee to dismiss the payment summary screen or for the Toast POS app to close after timing out.

Text size is correct for Toast Go™ POS devices

The text size (font size) in Toast Go™ POS devices is now correct. Previously, a problem caused some Toast Go™ devices to alter the text size of the Tip & Signature screen based on device text scaling settings. Now the text size remains consistent for these Toast POS app interface screens on Toast Go™ devices.

Order activity screen displays item quantity refunds correctly

The Toast POS app order activity screen now displays item quantity refunds correctly. Previously, the order activity screen always marked an entire menu item as refunded, even when only some of the item quantity had been refunded. For example, if you enter a coffee menu item in an order with a quantity of four and then refund one coffee item from that order, the order activity screen will correctly display the remaining three coffee items and indicate that one coffee item was refunded. Fractional refund amounts are also correctly displayed. Note that the fractional amount refers to the selection total for the menu item, not the weight total of the item. So, for example if a guest orders one 8-ounce steak and you apply a 0.5 refund, the refund you are giving is for 4 ounces of steak, not for 0.5 ounces.

Toast platform displays employee chosen name when set

The Toast platform now displays an employee’s Chosen Name instead of the employee’s First Name if the Chosen Name is set. For example, the employee’s chosen name is shown in:

  • Kitchen display system (KDS) tickets

  • Printed kitchen tickets

  • The Toast POS app order activity screen

  • Payment receipts

Employees can set the chosen name in the Personal Info section of the Employees configuration page of the Toast administration back-end.

This section provides information about changes that affect the way a restaurant receives payments.

Gift card maximum purchase limit now $500

The Payment Options > Gift Card > Maximum Amount configuration option that limits the maximum currency amount of a gift card value purchase is now restricted to $500. Previously, the maximum amount was $2000.

Online eGift card shop includes an Add another eGift Card button

The Toast online eGift card shop for restaurants now includes an Add another eGift Card button next to the Check Out button. Restaurant guests see the option to add another gift card purchase before beginning the checkout process to complete a purchase.

Scan to Pay and Menu and Pay have configurable tip options

You can now configure tip options in the Toast Scan to Pay and Toast Menu and Pay digital dine-in products. Toast Scan to Pay and Toast Menu and Pay use the tip configuration options that you set in the Tipping section of the Front of house > UI Options page in the Toast administration back-end.

Tip configuration options for Toast Scan to Pay and Toast Menu and Pay include:

  • Tip / Tax (calculate suggested tip before or after tax)

  • Customize Tip Percentages

  • Default Tip Selection

Card payment workflow with guest feedback works correctly on Toast Go™ devices

A problem that caused an incorrect sequence of card payment workflow screens on Toast Go™ devices with guest feedback enabled has been fixed. Now the card payment workflow with guest feedback displays the correct sequence of screens.
