Improvements

The following notes provide information about new and improved functionality.

Orders Hub has updated Sort by and Search buttons

The Sort by and Search buttons in the Orders Hub have an updated appearance on large Toast POS tablets (Flex or 15” Elo tablets).

Kitchen capacity throttling and manual throttling delay enhancements

The following improvements have been made to kitchen capacity throttling and manual throttling delays:

  • Previously, the kitchen throttling algorithm pushed ASAP orders to the beginning of the next available slot. This led to slots overfilling with too many ASAP orders. The throttling algorithm now pushes ASAP orders to the end of the next available slot. For example, if you have your kitchen capacity strategy set to 5 orders per 15 minutes, you will receive 5 orders at 5:00 PM and another group of ASAP orders at 5:15 PM.

  • Previously, if manual throttling delays were enabled for Toast Online Ordering, orders would not immediately fire to the kitchen. They were delayed based on the adjusted throttled due time. Now, when manual throttling delays are enabled, tickets fire to the kitchen as soon as the order is placed. This increases visibility in the kitchen for throttled orders.

New Toast account > Business information page is available

A new business information page, accessed by selecting Toast account > Business information in the Toast administration back-end, is available. This page contains information about your business such as the business name and address, federal tax ID, owners and control persons, and restaurant locations. You must have the Account Admin > Financial Accounts permission to access this page.

Order ready messaging available for orders

On the Orders Hub screen, you can choose to send guests a text message notifying them that their Toast Online Ordering order is ready for pick up. You can configure order ready messaging for your restaurant in the Toast administration back-end on the Order Ready Messaging page.

Toast Online Ordering configurations accessible through the online ordering dashboard

On the online ordering dashboard, you can quickly access and configure your order volume and online ordering availability. From the dashboard, you can:

  • Turn on/turn off/snooze online ordering availability.

  • Add throttle delays for takeout orders.

  • Turn on or off delivery or add a delay.

New delivery area configuration online map service

In the Takeout & delivery > Delivery Area configuration page of the Toast administration back-end, the delivery area configuration control now uses a map interface provided by the Mapbox™ online map service. Previously, the map interface was provided by the Google Maps™ service.

New Location information page for configuring restaurant business information

In the new Toast account > Location info page of the Toast administration back-end, you can manage your restaurant's location information (location name, phone number, and address).

Setup Checklist now includes a Schedule your team task

A new Schedule your team task has been added to the Setup Checklist that Toast customers see on the home page in the Toast administration back-end. Selecting the Schedule your team task starts the process for setting up Sling. Sling is a leading employee management platform that Toast has partnered with to provide Toast customers with simplified scheduling, centralized team communication, and insightful labor cost analytics. Employers can create schedules in minutes and manage employee time off, availability, and shift trade requests. Once Sling is connected with a Toast account, Toast and Sling data will sync (employee, wage, and position data syncs from Toast to Sling, and schedules sync from Sling to Toast). For more details, see this Toast Central article.

Cashing out a gift card refers to the action of providing cash for the remaining balance on the gift card.  This function is most often used when a regulations require that a restaurant offers guests cash tender when a gift card balance falls below a certain threshold. See this Toast Central article for more details.

Toast Online Ordering and Toast Takeout use mobile numbers and SMS messaging for guest authentication

Guests logging into Toast Online Ordering or the Toast Takeout app will no longer be required create an account with an email address and password. Instead, guests enter their mobile number and then receive a one-time code via an SMS text message to complete the login. This improvement lowers the barrier to account creation while simultaneously making guest login more secure because of the unique nature of SMS authentication. Entering their password one last time ensures that guest order history and credit card information is retained with the new SMS-based login system.
