Guests 2.28

The following sections provide information about changes that affect the way a restaurant interacts with guests.

Improvements

The following sections provide information about new and improved functionality.

Cash Payments for Kiosk Orders

Customers who use the Toast kiosk module can now enable and configure a cash payment workflow for their kiosks.

In the Toast administration back-end, the Display Setup > Kiosk Setup page now includes an Enable Cash Payments configuration option. If you choose Enable Cash Payments, the following additional configuration options appear.

  • The Cash Payment - Send Preference option defines when a kiosk order that is paid in cash is sent to the kitchen: either as soon as the guest completes their order at the kiosk, or only after a payment transaction is complete for the order. Kitchen tickets print or display as defined by this option.

  • The Cash Payment - Instructions option defines the message, if any, that you want the kiosk to display to guests who choose to pay in cash. For example, your instructions might cue the guest to bring their receipt to the next available cashier.

Receipts printed at the kiosk now include a QR code to identify each guest's order. A restaurant employee at a payment terminal can now look up the open check by scanning this QR code (in the same way that gift cards are scanned) and then accept cash payment.

Email and Text Receipts Include Feedback Section

Note

This feature is in limited, beta release and is not available at all restaurants.

Guest receipts sent by email now include a section for feedback. This new section appears below the restaurant name and address, and before the date, time, and other order-specific information.

The new feedback section with text "how was your visit?" and two icons, one a thumbs up and one a thumbs down.

When guests select one of these feedback options, their web browser opens and accesses a web page where additional feedback can be supplied.

Guest receipts sent by SMS text message now include a link to a web page with the same feedback section.

The email address or phone number of the guest is saved with their responses.

For more information about guest feedback, see this Toast Central article.

Receipts Can Include Guest Count

You can now control whether the number of guests appears on customer receipts for dine-in orders.

In the Toast administration back-end, the Marketing > Receipt Setup page now offers a Show Guest Count configuration option. If you select the Show guest count setting, your customer receipts for dine-in orders (taken in either Quick Order or Table Service mode) print Guest Count: and the number below the server's name.

For more information about options for configuring receipts, see Configuring customer printed receipts.

Receipts Can Show House Account Name or Number

For customers who maintain house accounts for guests, you can now configure receipts to show either the account number or the name associated with the house account after the total line. Previously, only the account number appeared on receipts.

In the Toast administration back-end, the Marketing > Receipt Setup page now offers a Show House Accounts configuration option. You can select either Show house account number, which is the default for all current customers, or Show name associated with house account to include House Account <first_name last_name> on your receipts instead of the account number.

Configuration Option for Free Special Requests

You can now control whether dine-in receipts include free special requests.

In the Toast administration back-end, the Marketing > Receipt Setup page now offers a Special Requests configuration option. You can select Show free special requests on Dine-In receipts, which is the default for all current customers, or Don't show.

Free special requests are always included on take out and delivery checks.

Fixes

The following sections provide information about fixed problems.

Searching for Promotion Codes Applies Multiple Discounts and Replaces Item Discounts Correctly

Searching for promotion codes to apply discounts now handles multiple discounts in the following ways:

  • If you do not select an item in a check on a Toast POS device, searching for a promotion code will apply a discount to the first item in the check that matches the discount. Depending on the configuration of the discount, if you search for the promotion code again, it will apply the discount to the next item in the check that matches the discount.

  • If you select (highlight) one or more items in a check on a Toast POS device, searching for a promotion code will apply a discount to the selected items and replace any existing discounts that are applied to those items. The selected items must match the configuration of the discount.

Pay $ Button Required for Reward Redemption

To assure that rewards are correctly debited from guest accounts when the check being paid has a balance of $0, on the payment terminal screen employees must use the Pay $ button and then select either Close or Done. For these $0 balance checks that include a reward redemption only, the payment terminal screen now disables the Close button.

Reward Redemption for Delivery Orders

This release corrects an error that prevented rewards from being debited from guest accounts on redemption. Delivery orders that include the redemption of a reward item or amount now correctly debit the guest's loyalty account.

Loyalty Welcome Email Corrected

This release corrects an error that prevented value from being added to a new Toast loyalty card via the welcome email.

Improved Device Response When Loading Discounts

This change resolves an issue where, for some locations with a large number of discounts configured, the POS was not responding and then crashing after a menu item was selected.

Configuration Applies to All Free Modifiers

The same configuration setting that controls whether other free modifiers are included on dine-in receipts now also applies to free modifiers on combo discount selections. On the Marketing > Receipt Setup page, when the Free Modifiers configuration option is set to Show free Items on Dine-In receipts, free modifiers on combo discount selections will now appear on dine-in receipts.

Free modifiers are always included on take out and delivery checks.

Improved Consistency Validation for Itemized Receipts

For guest checks that have been updated at multiple devices, this release includes additional validation steps to ensure that itemized customer receipts present information consistently.

Corrected Prices for Voided Items with Priced Modifiers

Voided items that include priced modifiers now display the correct price in checks. Previously, items with priced modifiers displayed a zero price ($0.00) after they were voided from a check.

Loyalty Barcodes on Digital Receipts

For customers who use the Punchh loyalty platform, barcodes are now included on digital receipts. Previously, barcodes were only included on printed receipts.

Exclude from Rewards Program Column in Advanced Properties

In the Toast administration back-end, only customers who participate in the Toast loyalty program can now select Menu > Advanced Properties and then select the Exclude from Rewards Program column to review or change settings for their menu groups, items, modifiers, and so on. Previously, all customers could include this column and change its settings, although doing so had no effect.
