Improvements

The following notes provide information about new and improved functionality.

Check-level Bulk Discounts Now Support Auto-Apply Option

With this release, you can configure check-level bulk discounts to automatically apply. This new functionality is available for fixed currency and fixed percent check-level bulk discounts that are configured with at least one required item. The discount will automatically apply either all of the time or during configured time periods. The auto-apply feature is not available for fixed discounts that do not have required items nor for open discounts.

To configure auto-apply for a check-level bulk discount, use the Auto apply discount option in the Discount Rules section of the Payments > Discounts configuration page on the Toast administration back-end.

Item-level Discounts Now Support Auto-Apply Option

Note

This feature is in limited release.

With this release, you can configure item-level discounts to automatically apply. This new functionality is available for fixed currency and fixed percent item-level discounts. The discount will automatically apply either all of the time or during configured time periods.

The auto-apply feature is not available for open discounts nor for any item-level discount that requires human intervention (manager approval, discount reasons, or promo codes).

To configure auto-apply for an item-level discount, use the Auto apply discount option in the Discount Rules section of the Payments > Discounts configuration page on the Toast administration back-end.

Discount Promo Code Effective Dates

Note

This feature is in limited release.

This release introduces support for effective dates for discount promo codes. This feature allows you to add start and end dates for when a discount's promo code is valid. The promo code date setting must include both a start date and an end date.

You configure the promo code effective dates in the Promo Codes section of the Payments > Discounts configuration page on the Toast administration back-end. Promo code effective dates must fall within the range of the discount's Availability start and end dates.

These Toast POS changes are also included in this release to support the discount promo code effective dates feature:

  • Discounts whose promo code dates are not in effect are not shown on the Toast POS device. These include both dates that have expired (are in the past) and dates in the future.

  • If a Toast POS user enters a promo code (manually or by scanning a barcode) and that promo code has expired, the Toast POS app displays an error message to the user that the promo code has expired.

Consolidated Item-level Fixed Currency Discounts

Note

This feature is in limited release.

A new configuration option, Consolidate Discounts, is available in the Other Setup > UI Options page in the Toast administration back-end.

This option affects how much is discounted from a check when an item-level fixed currency discount is applied to two like items that are consolidated into a single line item in a check (for example, 2 sodas). By default, this option is set to No.

The following example shows how a discount would behave with each Consolidate Discounts setting (Yes or No).

Sample discount example:

$2 Discount
2 Sodas, $5 each
Pre-Discount Check Total = $10

Results of applying the discount, depending on the configuration setting:

Consolidate Discounts=No behavior: the fixed currency discount is applied to the total of all items:
2 Sodas, $10 - $2 Discount = $8

Consolidate Discounts=Yes behavior: the fixed currency discount is applied to each quantity of 1 item:
2 Sodas , $10 - $2 Discount (x quantity of 2 items) = $6

Scale Support for Kiosk

With this release, the use of a scale for weighed menu items is supported on the Toast Kiosk. The user can add menu items that have a configured UoM (Unit of Measure) to orders. The UoM is shown on the order workflow, the cart, and receipts.

For information on using a scale, see Certified scales.

Guests Prompted For Tip Before Payment on Guest-Facing Display

Guest-facing displays now prompt restaurant guests for a tip amount before making a payment using a guest payment reader.

This change applies if:

  • The guest-facing display is configured to use a guest card reader.

  • The guest card reader is used to process the payment. Restaurant employees select Guest pay to allow guests to pay using the guest card reader.

Prompting for a tip before making a payment complies with the requirements of some payment card brands that guests may use with the Toast POS system.

Links for Use by Restaurant Guests Added to Rewards Program Page

Two links have been added to the Marketing > Rewards Program page in the Toast administration back-end. These links are provided on this page so that restaurant owners can find them quickly and give them to their guests. The first link, Online Signup, allows guests to sign up for a restaurant’s rewards program. The second link, Reward Card Lookup, allows restaurant guests to view information about the rewards account.

Fixes

The following notes provide information about fixed problems.

Auto-applied Discounts Are No Longer Immediately Removed When Sending the Check

Previously, in some specific situations, when an employee sent a check (that is, pressed Pay, Send, Stay, or Hold), discounts were auto-applied and then immediately removed from the check incorrectly. This problem would prevent the employee from closing out the order without removing some of the items involved in the discount. This release fixes the problem.

Accessing a Discount Via a URL No Longer Copies Item Triggers

This release fixes a bug that could cause item triggers from one discount to be copied to another discount when the second discount was accessed directly via a URL.

Scrolling Among Menu Groups on a Toast Kiosk Now Functions Properly

In the previous release, the buttons that allow you to scroll among menu groups on a Toast Kiosk were inappropriately grayed out and inaccessible in some situations. This problem has been fixed.

Tip Is No Longer Erroneously Added to the Signature Screen

Previously, if you set the Tip & Signature UI configuration option (available on the Payments > Payment Options page in the Toast administration back-end) to Use the legacy Tip screen along with the legacy signature screen, and then a guest selected No Tip during the payment process, the Toast POS app would erroneously add a tip to the payment amount shown on the signature screen. The erroneous tip did not result in an incorrect charge to the customer, just an incorrect display on the signature screen. This problem has been fixed.

Guest Facing Display Respects Tip & Signature UI Configuration

On the Payments > Payment Options page in the Toast administration back-end, there are two settings for the Tip & Signature UI configuration option:

  • Use the combined Tip & Signature Screen: With this setting, 3 tip options should be displayed on the guest facing display.

  • Use the legacy Tip screen along with the legacy signature screen: With this setting, 4 tip options should be displayed on the guest-facing display.

An issue existed where the guest-facing display would display 4 tip options, regardless of which setting you chose for the Tip & Signature UI configuration option. This problem has been fixed and the guest-facing display now shows 3 tips options when you have set the Tip & Signature UI configuration option to Use the combined Tip & Signature Screen.
