Restaurant Operations 2.42

This section provides information about changes that affect the way restaurant employees take and fulfill guest orders.

Improvements

The following notes provide information about new and improved functionality.

Online Ordering Schedule Settings Available for Curbside Dining Option

Previously, the Online Ordering Schedule page did not display corresponding schedule settings when you only configured the Curbside Option without also configuring the Takeout Option on the Online Ordering page. With this release, when you set only the curbside dining option, you can configure the Takeout & Curbside schedule on the Online Ordering Schedule page.

Toast Order and Pay Payments Accept Promo Codes and Toast Gift Cards

Note

This feature is in limited release.

Restaurant guests using the Toast Order and Pay function can now use promo codes and Toast gift cards when paying for restaurant checks. Guests must enter tip amounts using a credit card.

Toast Order and Pay Orders Include Revenue Center Information

Toast Order and Pay orders now include the revenue center information for the table or service area of a restaurant. The revenue center for an Order and Pay order depends on the revenue center configuration for the restaurant.

The Toast platform assigns an Order and Pay order revenue center based upon the table the order comes from.

  • If the table has a revenue center, the order includes the table's revenue center.

  • If the table does not have a revenue center, but the service area that the table is a part of does have a revenue center, the order includes the revenue center of the table's service area.

  • If the table does not have a revenue center and the table is not part of a service area the order does not include a revenue center.

  • If the table does not have a revenue center and the the service area it is a part of also does not have a revenue center, the order does not include a revenue center.

Online Ordering Schedule Configuration Available to Restaurants Using Integrated Online Ordering Services

Previously, you could access the Online Ordering Schedule page in the Toast administration back-end only if your restaurant used Toast online ordering. The page was not accessible if your restaurant used an integrated online ordering service (e.g. DoorDash or Grubhub). With this release, the Online Ordering Schedule page is accessible to restaurants using integrated online ordering services.

Note

This feature is currently in limited availability. The schedules you configure on the Online Ordering Schedule page are currently not visible to online ordering services that integrate with the Toast platform.

Your Updates Section Added to the Top of the Toast Administration Back-end Home Page

Note

This feature is in limited release.

Your Updates, at the top of the Toast administration back-end home page, is your go-to place for updates from Toast. It is where Toast shares personalized guidance to help you get started with new tools, provides tips for getting the most out of Toast products, and makes recommendations about products or features that will be helpful for your restaurant.

The Your Updates section appears as a scrolling message block in your dashboard, with links directing you to helpful content or product information pages. The Your Updates section only appears when Toast has personalized updates to share with you, so it may not always be present.

Online Ordering Dashboard Added to the Top of the Toast Administration Back-end Home Page

Note

This feature is in limited release.

The top of the Toast administration back-end home page now includes the Online Ordering dashboard for users with the Web Setup > Restaurant Operations Setup permission. This dashboard includes the What's Available and Quote Times sections where you can make quick changes to your online ordering setup.

The What's Available section allows you to:

  • Turn online ordering on or off. When set to off, your guests are prevented from placing new takeout or delivery orders until you toggle the switch on again.

  • Snooze online ordering for a set amount of time (20 minutes, 40 minutes, or until the next day). Orders resume automatically when the selected time has elapsed.

  • Turn delivery on or off. Turn delivery on to make it an option for your guests when placing orders online. Turning delivery off means guests can only place takeout orders.

The Quote Times section lets you increase the estimated quote times guests see when placing a takeout order or delivery order online. The time you specify is added to your existing prep and delivery quote times.

For more information, see this Toast Central article.

Quick Actions Section Added to the Top of the Toast Administration Back-end Home Page

Note

This feature is in limited release.

The home page of the Toast administration back-end now displays a Quick Actions section that contains useful links that quickly navigate you to the appropriate Toast administration back-end pages for your most common tasks. Those tasks include:

  • View sales summary report

  • Edit menus

  • Manage employees and permissions

  • Find a check

  • Manage takeout and delivery

  • Create comps and promos

The links in the Quick Actions section are only displayed if you have permissions to access them. Also, you must have permissions to access at least three of the quick action links or the entire section is hidden from view.

Out of Stock Items Automatically Removed from Cart for Order and Pay At the Table Orders

Previously, item stock was only verified on page load or reload. Thus, if an item went out-of-stock in between a customer adding it to their cart, and that customer completing checkout, the customer would be permitted to purchase an out-of-stock item, creating a negative stock count for that item.

With this release, out of stock items are automatically removed from the guest’s cart before they check out, and they are notified of this change. If an item in the cart goes out of stock during check out, an error message is displayed asking the guest to remove the out of stock item to proceed with the order.
