Payment processing glossary

A person or organization that is making and completing a payment in a Toast restaurant or store.

Contains customer payment card details. The customer record is used to match the customer to their payment cards saved by your integration. For more information, see Creating a customer record.

An HTML element that you can use to embed payments on your checkout screen. The iframe used in the hosted checkout integration securely sends payment information to the Toast platform.

Represents your intent to take a payment from a customer on your checkout page or guest profile page. For more information, see Creating a payment intent.

Any method for your customer to pay for a product or service. The hosted checkout integration APIs support the following payment methods:

A customized configuration of payment methods that you can display in the hosted checkout iframe. You can configure and customize your payment method configurations in the Toast developer portal. For more information, see Managing payment method configurations.

Represents the web domain that you registered with Apple to accept Apple Pay payments. You can register and verify your payment method domains in the Toast developer portal. For more information, see Registering and verifying a payment method domain.

Used to verify communication in the iframe between your integration and the Toast platform. An active session secret is required to initialize the hosted checkout iframe. For more information, see Creating a payment intent.

Represents your customer's intent to save a payment card to their profile in your integration.
