House accounts overview

Important

House accounts can be created and added while your Toast account is in Test Mode. House accounts can take 24 to 48 hours to appear on a Toast POS device once the location comes out of Test Mode. For more information, see this Toast Central article.

A house account is a guest account managed by a Toast location that allows guests to make purchases on credit and accrue a balance to be paid at a later time. The house account feature allows you to close out POS orders during a business day as paid for sales reporting purposes, while deferring the payment(s) towards the outstanding balance of a house account in Toast Web.

Note

The house accounts feature does not support Toast Online Ordering and cannot be shared across multiple locations.

House account balances can be paid from a Toast Web invoice or on a Toast POS device. Toast support recommends guests choose one method to pay a house account balance.

  • Using Toast Web: You create a Toast invoice to send to a guest for the orders placed within a custom time range.

  • Using the Toast POS device: Guests can partially pay, fully pay, or overpay the house account's outstanding balance from any order screen.

Note

House accounts cannot be set up to be tax-exempt. If orders paid by a house account should be tax-exempt, they need to be marked individually as tax-exempt before being "paid" by the house account. For information about how to mark an order as tax-exempt, see this Toast Central article.
