Check management overview

You can manage your checks on the Payment Terminal screen on the Toast POS app. You can manage your checks by viewing guest checks and payments, sorting and filtering checks, or by voiding, closing, or reopening checks. On the POS home screen, select Mode > Payment Terminal to open the Payment Terminal screen.

On the Payment Terminal, checks are organized by status:

  • Open

  • Paid

  • Closed

Sorting and filtering checks

On the Payments Terminal screen, you can view, sort, and filter your checks and their payment statuses. You can choose from the following filtering and sorting options.

Sorting options:

  • Amount due

  • Check number

  • Customer last name

  • Most recent

  • Oldest

  • Quoted time

  • Tab name

  • Table number

  • Total check amount

Filtering options:

  • User

    • Me

    • My role. This option displays all orders from employees who are assigned the same job role as the check owner.

  • Order type

    • Quick orders. This option displays all orders.

    • Table orders. This option displays all orders assigned to a table.

    • Online orders. This option displays all orders placed via Toast Online Ordering, the Local by Toast app, and third-party online ordering channels.

  • Dining option. This list is dynamic and the filtering options available depend on your restaurant's configurations. For more information, see Dining options.

To sort and filter checks

Note

You can only select one sorting option, but can select multiple filtering options.

  1. On the Toast POS app, navigate to Mode and select Payment Terminal to open the Payment Terminal screen.

  2. Select the Filter button to the right of the screen. This opens the Sort and filter panel to the left of the screen.

  3. Select your sorting and filtering options. The default sorting option is by Check number. To change your sorting option, select another option or select the Reset link to reset your sorting option.

    The default filtering option is to filter by all checks. To change your filter option, select another filter option.

  4. Select the Done button. As you select your sorting and filtering options, labels appear and the Payment Terminal screen displays a list of checks that match your criteria.

    To remove a filter option, select the X icon on the label or select the Clear link or uncheck the option in the Sort and filter panel. You cannot remove a sorting option. You can only reset your sorting options by selecting the Reset link.

Searching checks

On the Payment Terminal screen, you can also search for checks by selecting the magnifying glass icon. This opens a search field. As you type, the Payment Terminal searches and displays a list of checks that match the entered characters.

You can search by the following criteria:

  • Check number

  • Check owner

  • Guest name

  • Tab name

  • Table name
