Reopening a shift

Note

If the shift is closed and the employee has clocked out, the shift cannot be reopened from a Toast POS device. To reopen a shift, navigate to the Time Entries page in Toast Web. For more information, see Editing Employee Time Clock Entries.

Reopening your shift

As an employee, you can reopen your shift during shift review. Some instances of when you might want to reopen your shift include:

  • Accidentally skipping the reconciling cash and tips step.

  • Choosing the wrong cash drawer to deposit cash sales or remove cash tips.

  • Extending a shift after clocking out.

To reopen your shift

  1. On the Toast POS device, navigate to the Shift Review screen. For information on how to access your shift review, see Accessing shift review.

  2. In the Cash reimbursement step, select the Edit button. This opens the Edit cash and non-cash tip reconciliation dialog box. The dialog box displays the total cash and non-cash tips taken during your shift.

  3. Select the Yes, make edits button to reopen the shift and edit total cash and non-cash tips, or select the Cancel button to cancel out of the dialog box.

  4. Select the Reopen shift link in the Checks step to reopen your shift. A confirmation dialog box appears asking you if you want to reopen the shift.

  5. Select the Reopen shift button to reopen the shift or the Cancel button to cancel out of the dialog box.

  6. Follow the steps in shift review to complete shift review.

Reopening an employee's shift

As a manager, you can reopen an employee’s shift. Some instances of when you might want to reopen a shift include:

  • Tips were paid out of the wrong cash drawer.

  • Cash was collected using the wrong cash drawer.

  • Tips were adjusted on a check after the shift was closed.

  • A check was closed to the wrong employee.

To reopen an employee's shift

  1. On the Toast POS device, navigate to Manager Activities, and select Review Employee Shifts to open the Review Employee Shifts screen. This displays all employee shifts and the status of their shifts.

  2. Select the employee you would like to reopen the shift for. This opens the employee’s shift review. An employee shift can only be reopened if the shift status is one of the following:

    • Active shift

    • Closed shift

    • Cash collected

    • Paid out

  3. On the Shift Review screen, select the Edit button in the Cash reimbursement step. This opens the Edit cash and non-cash tip reconciliation dialog box. The dialog box displays the total cash and non-cash tips taken during the shift.

  4. Select the Yes, make edits button to reopen the shift and edit total cash and non-cash tips, or select the Cancel button to cancel out of the dialog box.

  5. Select the Reopen shift link in the Checks step to reopen the shift. A confirmation dialog box appears asking you to confirm if you want to reopen the shift.

  6. Select the Reopen shift button to reopen the shift or the Cancel button to cancel out of the dialog box.

  7. Follow the steps in shift review to complete shift review.
