The following sections describe updates included in the Toast POS app release version 2.85.
Restaurant guests can now sign up for or sign in to Toast loyalty accounts on the Toast POS guest-facing display (GFD) at the start of a transaction. Previously, the loyalty workflow appeared at the end of a transaction. Guests can still enter their loyalty account details at the end of a transaction if they do not do so at the start of a transaction.

The upsell manager is now available in Toast Web at Menus > Upsells > Upsell manager. The Upsell manager helps restaurants boost revenue and monitor overall upsell performance and engagement by suggesting menu items and order add-ons to guests. Restaurant employees also receive notifications about upsell opportunities through alerts and messages on Toast Flex and Toast Go devices.

The shift at a glance feature lets you inform your restaurant employees of key announcements, reminders, and updates during their shift. With the staff notes feature, you can communicate information such as new daily specials, out of stock menu items, and upcoming reservations. Restaurant employees are prompted to view staff notes when they log into a POS device, ensuring they are updated and prepared for their shifts.
This change is in limited release. Not all Toast POS locations have access to this feature.

Kitchen item labels have been updated in the following ways:

Labels now fit more item information on smaller-sized, 1.5 by 3 inch vertical labels.

Labels now include table numbers when a table number is present on an order.

The kitchen display system (KDS) grid view has been updated in the following ways:

Grid view now shows table information in the ticket header.

Grid view now shows the previous course status if enabled at your restaurant.

Grid view tickets now show when an item needs to be split into multiple portions.

The Kitchen > Kitchen and ticket setup > Consolidate Items with Multiple Quantities setting in Toast Web now functions independently from the Individual Item Tickets setting. When enabled, this setting allows you to consolidate items with multiple quantities as a single entity with an indicated quantity. When disabled, this setting shows items with multiple quantities as separate entities, each with a quantity of one.

Expediter kitchen display system (KDS) devices using grid view can now individually mark items as fulfilled to indicate that those items have been delivered to guests. Previously, expediter KDS devices could only fulfill entire tickets, which made tracking orders difficult.
Additionally, on expediter KDS devices using grid view, a new double checkmark fulfillment icon appears next to an item that has been fulfilled an additional time.

Toast Kiosk devices now show payment options relevant to the kiosk device during the order payment step such as Gift Card or Pay with Cash. Previously, Toast Kiosk devices showed Swipe your card during payment even if no card reader was present.

Toast loyalty rewards on Toast Kiosk devices now apply to individual items. Previously, loyalty rewards applied to the entire order.

When a guest enters their name during the order workflow for Toast Kiosk orders, the check updates with the name provided by the guest. Previously, the guest’s name on their loyalty account superseded what the guest entered, which confused the restaurant employees and guests when the name for the order was called.

Toast Kiosk menus now align with the left-hand menu navigation. Previously, the first menu group in a list did not align with the menu group navigation.

Nested modifiers on Toast Kiosk devices now correctly display their price, matching the item total. Previously, the nested modifier’s price with an up-charge was not shown, even though the item total included the up-charge.
