Menu manager and the classic menu details pages

The Toast platform currently has two workflows for menu creation: the menu manager workflow and the classic menu workflow. You access both workflows through Toast Web. The menu manager is a new, easier-to-use menu creation tool that is designed to help you quickly create and manage your menus. The illustration below shows the menu manager with a menu item selected for editing in a side panel:

Important

The side panel is not yet available for multi-location restaurants. If you select a menu entity's name in Full menu view, the classic details page for the entity opens.

The pages for the classic menu workflow are older and contain the full suite of menu configuration options that are required by more complex menu features (for example, nested modifier groups or bar code scanner setup). The illustration below shows a portion of the classic details page for a menu item:

To create your menu, start with the menu manager. This tool has been specifically designed to make creating and editing menu entities quicker and more efficient. There are some pieces of menu configuration, however, that don't exist yet in the menu manager and must still be done using the classic menu pages. For example, advanced pricing features like price levels must be set using the classic menu pages. The sections in this chapter note when you must use the classic menu pages to provide advanced configuration.

For a menu or menu group, you can quickly move from the menu manager to the classic details pages by selecting the menu or menu group to see its side panel and then selecting the Advanced settings link that appears at the top of the panel:

For a menu item, select the item to see its side panel and then select the More item settings link at the bottom of the side panel:
